June 2014 – Ventura Star, “Firm Brings Heat Down on Pests”.
A recent article in the Ventura Star demonstrates how ThermaPureHeat, originally used to combat pests in structures, is also very effective with other organisms, including bacteria and viruses. Many of these other organisms, such as the MRSA bacteria, may be extremely difficult to control because they can develop resistance to chemical forms of disinfectant. Heat, however, is very effective.

October 2012 – Executive Housekeeping Today, “”Bug Bite on Family Trip Lands Man in ER”. Experts concluded that Sandy William’s serious staph infection was the result of the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria entering a bite wound caused by a bed bug.
This article discusses the potential for bed bug bites to be a vehicle for the transmission of disease, such as a staph infection. The article presents an argument for structural pasteurization as a more complete bed bug elimination process because ThermaPureHeat will kill both bed bugs and bacteria the bugs may carry. Prevention of the type of medical incident discussed in the article argues for the use of engineering controls, including filtration, when bed bugs are the target. Bed bug elimination is an environmental remediation process and requires the use of engineering controls. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released a report that identified the occurrence of 111 acute illnesses, including one death, that were associated with bed bug related insecticide use. These reported illnesses occurred from 2003-2010 in seven States that participate in a CDC program to conduct surveillance of pesticide-related illnesses. The bulk of the illnesses reported were associated with the application of pyrethoids, pyrethrins, or both. The most common contributing factors were excessive pesticide applications, failure to clean insecticide-treated bedding, and failure to properly notify occupants of pesticide application.
