Nosocomial Disease and Infection
ThermaPureHeat® is a superb treatment process for nosocomial disease and infection because of its ability to manage both bacterial and viral pathogens without the application of chemical disinfectants. ThermaPure® temperatures are extremely effective with these infectious organisms and can be used as a disinfectant.

Infections in hospitals and acute care centers from resistant strains of bacteria and viruses have created several new market opportunities for ThermaPure®. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and other nosocomial infectious agents have become increasingly difficult to manage in health care environments. Inability to treat these types of infections with traditional antibiotics has made prevention the primary control and health care facilities have not been successful in controlling these infections.
According to the Committee to Reduce Infection Deaths an estimated 2 million hospital acquired infections resulting in 103,000 deaths occur from nosocomial infections each year. The increased medical cost alone for these infections is $30 billion. Medicare recently began a program to cease payments to hospitals for costs they believe are avoidable. Under rules adopted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) payments can be withheld for certain infections that CMS believes are preventable. A recent study found that Medicare was billed for 67 percent of the total number of patient infections reported by the state’s hospitals. The potential cost in lost revenues to U.S. hospitals in Medicare payments is estimated to exceed $20 Billion.
Other insurers are adopting similar initiatives, refusing to pay hospitals for what they call “never events”. There are 28 listed hospital activities resulting in death, injury or infection that should “never” occur. These initiatives are a significant incentive to develop new infection programs.
ThermaPureHeat® can resolve several of the listed activities providing disinfection services without the use of chemical applications.
